How it works

Pick an image and type a new width or height. The other value fills in automatically so the picture is not stretched. Save the result as JPEG, PNG or WebP. Processing happens on your device.

Pixels versus print size

Resizing changes pixels, not inches. A larger pixel count gives a sharper print at a given size, while a smaller one gives a lighter file for email and web pages. Enlarging a small image cannot add detail that was never captured, so it will look soft. Full HD video and many screens use 1920 by 1080 pixels, which is a handy reference.

When to resize

For social media, check the platform current recommended dimensions, since they change from time to time.

Common questions

How do I resize an image without stretching it?

Change only the width or only the height. The tool calculates the other to keep the original proportions.

Which format should I choose?

JPEG for photos, PNG for graphics with sharp edges or transparency needs, WebP for small files on modern browsers.

Will resizing reduce quality?

Making an image smaller keeps it looking sharp at its new size. Making it larger makes it look softer.

What happens to transparent PNGs?

This tool fills transparent areas with white, whichever format you save as.
